Michael Joy
Michael Joy is a Production Designer based in Vancouver, Canada. Born and raised in Montreal Qc, he attended Loyola High School, The New School of Montreal and graduated in design from The National Theatre School of Canada in 1979. After graduating, he worked designing sets, costumes and lighting across Canada at various regional theatres and in Montreal working in both French and English, most notably at the Centaur Theatre and Theatre D’Aujourdhui. In 1985 he began Production Designing with a series of 30 min films at the NFB in coproduction with Atlantis Films. He worked on feature films, television and in advertising as well as teaching at NTS, Concordia University and Bishop’s University. He moved to Vancouver in 1992 and since then has designed long and short form television for ABC, NBC, CBS, Syfy, Fox, CW, the CBC, the BBC and Netflix. He has been nominated for two Gemini Awards (Best Television in Canada), won three Leo Awards (Best Television in BC) and was nominated in both 1998 and 2008 for an Emmy for Best Production Design Movie or Miniseries (Joan of Arc, Tinman). He is a member of IATSE 891 and the DGC and a past member of  ACFC and the ADC.
